Magellan's tricky route through the Strait of Magellan (depicted above).
For a while, Magellan was not recognized as the man who led the first voyage around the world. Though now we recognize him as the captain of that expedition. And now that we know that he led that voyage, we can remember him as the explorer, navigator, and captain. One way Magellan is remembered is with the Strait of Magellan. During the voyage, Magellan was in charge of leading his crew around South America. He tried many rivers, but didn't succeed, until he found a passage through Cape Horn. Since he discovered this passage we now call it the Strait of Magellan. As seen above, the Strait of Magellan is a twisting route through Cape Horn in Chile and Argentina in South America.
Some other ways Magellan is remembered are through statues and products. In the Philippines there are many statues commemorating Chief Lapu Lapu, the Native Chief that killed Magellan. Also, there are a few monuments to Magellan himself. There is a large statue in Chile to remember his discovery of the Strait of Magellan. In the Philippines there is a large monument where the battle that killed him might have taken place. Lastly, there is GPS company that is called Magellan, most likely due to Magellan's great navigational skills. Those are some of the ways Ferdinand Magellan is remembered today.

A Magellan GPS, named obviously, after Ferdinand Magellan.
What do the two have in common? Both are good navigators (Ferdinad Magellan being the better navigator).
